Being the outcast is not fun, especially when you are bullied about being different, however, if you were in the animal kingdom, being different may actually save your life.
What is it?
Ap selection is when a animal that knows it is prey will change something about itself in order to confuse the predictor. This is different from camouflaging because the prey animal doe snot attempt to fit into its surrounds, it changes it's pattern in order to look different. For example, if an animal is looking for prey and they are used to seeing a deer that is brown but see something that looks similar to a deer but is yellow, the animals may overlook the deer as it is unsure and simply skims over the deer as it's mind does not recognize it as prey.Because predictors use a "search image," an image of what their prey "should" look like, when they don't see something that looks like that, they skip over that prey.
How does this relate to ugliness?
This relates to ugliness and being different because if everyone looked beautiful it would not beneficial. In the animal kingdom being different from others of the same species can mean survival, in the human world it can be devastating. Nevertheless, ugliness can be beneficial because if someone is just out to use someone for status, etc. being poor or ugly can assist you in finding someone who really loves you for you. They will skim over you as they try to look for their "prey" and you will be safe from people who just want someone for their looks, or status. The idea that being ugly will help you find someone who really loves you for your personality, and for you in extremely valid in this case. Although you may want to get plastic surgery, or try anything else to fit in, don't, because your ugliness is beneficial to you and it may not seem like it sometimes, but biology says being different has benefits leading to survival and science is more important than what some mean person thinks of you.Apostatic selection is not camouflage or mimicry, they stand out as different and "weird" to their predictors.
While understanding apostatize selection is more about the animal kingdom we can take this idea and learn from it. Standing out in the animal kingdom keeps them alive, standing out as "weird" and ugly to people may assist us with only allowing true friends and serious lovers into our life.Even though Apostatic selection doesn't apply to us fully, we can learn from the animal kingdom and evolution about our differences and why they are important and beneficial to have.
