Many lucid minded people will clear their throat when they want something done or simply clear their throat to cough and their psychotic minded partner will become upset.
We have been programmed to believe this is because they are paranoid ...

nevertheless, the field of paralinguistics states that the clearing of the throat indicates the person is doubtful of something another person said, or wants to gain attention in a situation. It also indicates nervousness, perhaps someone is nervous about something they are about to say, or nervous about what someone has said.
Hearing someone clearing their throat in certain situations is non-verbal communication, thus why people with BPD, NPD, HPD, Psychopathy become upset when we hear the throat-clear, especially if we happen to say something or throw out an idea and then someone clears their throat, to us, as well as people who study non-verbal communication, it indicate that person is doubtful about our idea, or irritated with us somehow. People labeled with a personality disorder will become upset because the lucid thinking person will communicate their feelings, or thoughts via these non-verbal communication cues, however we are told there is something wrong with us when we see and listen to these cues.
Clearing the throat means you are annoyed, displeased, or doubtful of something someone said or did. Sadly in some situations when a person who is labeled deranged points it out they are gaslighted and told they are paranoid, or are sensitive and need to receive help.
However, being aware that noticing when a person clears their throat at certain times is a communication skill, and not because something must be wrong with us will allow us to thrive.
