Sensitive? BPD? HPD? Anixety? But what if that change can actually be measured by a scientific tool designed to measure change in pitch.
What it is?
The tone variator was invented by Psychologist William Stern to assist in measuring a person's sensitivity to pitch. The tone variator measured the air difference in the changing of a pitch to measure the change in frequency detected. Perhaps think of blowing into a whistle while you are talking and the sound of the whistle gets louder or softer depending on how loud and how high pitched your voice became.Another example is a bagpipe or an organ pipe that changes pitch and loudness depending on how much air is blown into them. Stern put a meter on the device to measure the change of pitch in a person's voice.
How does it relate?
The tone variator demonstrates that our perceived psychological sensitivity to change is actually physiological and can be physically measured. Sadly, we are taught our sensitivities are due to our mindset and a personality disorder, however, among other scientific tools developed studying the effects of sound and psychology, Dr. Stern invented a device over 100 years ago that has proven otherwise
