Our hypothalamus relates our hunger and knows when we need food and how much we need. Because every body is different, we burn calories at a different rate, our daily activity level changes from day to day thus burning calories at a different rate daily, and fatter people burn more calories than smaller people.
Our hypothalamus knows when the body needs food to send signals of hunger to a person. The hypothalamus' job is to keep the body in homeostasis so if you need food, or warmth it will release hormones and neurotransmitters needed to signal to you you need food, warmth or to cool down. The Hypothalamus also is responsible for our emotions and responding to the stimuli around us. If we see something we dislike and cry, or become angry it is the Hypothalamus' fault, not yours for it is responding to stimuli that is unpleasant to us.
The part of the Hypothalamus responsible for our hunger and fullness are as follows :
Hunger cues= Lateral Hypothalamus.
Fullness = Ventromedial Hypothalamus
Regulation of hunger = Paraventricular Hypothalamus
Also, because the Hypothalamus regulates your body temperature, a person's hypothalamus regulating body temperature at a slower pace than others may be the reason for excess hunger as body temperature burns more / less calories depending on if a person is cold or warm.

"Somatostatin, Vasopressin, Oxytocin, Gonadotropin-releasing hormone, Thyrotropin-releasing hormone, Corticotropin-releasing hormone" are released by the Hypothalamus which are responsible for arousal, hunger and emotions we need to respond to what is going on around us.
When you are hungry, or upset it is your job to fulfill your Hypothalamus' request and pay attention to what it wants to put your body back into homeostasis. Your brain wants you to yell, cry and eat so it can get back to normal and a stable state.
