Although love and marriage is one of the greatest things for some, it is not for others. As a whole we have romanticized love and procreation and lust to the point if you do not love or follow through with societal norms of marriage and love you are labeled as mentally ill. Some people prefer to be wild and have the choice to go out and not marry or be in a long-term relationship and that is okay, however, society as a whole argues that is a sign of a disorder.
We have romanticized procreation and lust leading to society to desire to suppress evolutionary behaviors such as being alert to stimuli in case of a threat,. We are humans and psychiatry field have needed to train us to act a certain way, as what they believe to be acceptable. However, our animal instincts are still there and because we have the need to romanticize relationships and love, we are instructed to suppress our evolutionary traits. When we can not suppress these feelings and behaviors they are given the term mental illness.
We are labeled as superior to animals, however, these same people teaching medicine and science don't or choose to not remember we are animals. Vegan, vegetarian, carnivore, Christian, Atheist you can not deny the scientific facts that we are related to chimps and we are still, no matter how sophisticated we may be, mammals. I feel that because we are labeled as "humans" we are expected to ignore our behavioral similarities with our "non-human animal" peers. Any relation to those animalistic urges are seen as a mental illness, however, we ARE animals.
Nevertheless, our need to suppress normal desires simply because we have our own agenda as a society is unscientific and shows that as a society we like to control basic needs and desires purely because we need to fulfill wishes that we saw in a Disney movie or a read in a Nicolas Sparks novel. These unrealistic fantasies take place in the psychiatry field and everyday society to tell society how they should and shouldn't behave how we shouldn't and should love, eat, look, and have sex.
