Diet companies, and weight loss gurus will use spin to look favorable in a time where we can either accept who we are, or want to completely change who we were supposed to be.
A side has already been chosen, and that side is usually the side that is more profitable. Since self-acceptance doesn't keep repeated customers, the media and the bariatric, psychiatric and cosmetic industry want to spin documents, studies and reports in their favor.
These industries will spin stories to favor what their ideology is. Society thinks fat people are disgusting, crazy people should be locked away, and ugly people should be indoors. Society spins this by reading 5 studies come only 1 of which subscribes to those ideas about fat, ugly, crazy people. Guess which study society will promote, and which studies are "not true."
Although more studies have come out against BMI, studies have come out stating that healthy eating and exercise is more important in determining health than body fat %, plastic surgery is dangerous, and mentally ill people are more prone to being the victim of violent attacks than sane people, society spins their ideology.
Self- love and healthy eating do not make a news story, death and destruction do. This is why we see how fatness can lead to death, crazy people WILL kill you and if you are ugly you will be an outcast.
How can they sell a remedy? By using spin tactics to spin studies about disease, and weight. These industires read studies about how exercise is more important to health than lose weight, and how losing weight is negative in the long-run, but the studies they are most concerned about are the ones that they twist to suit their needs.
A person who was obese but died in a car accident who had diabetes is now a obesity-related death due to diabetes. A person who sticks up for themselves now becomes "mental illness leads to mental meltdown."
These industries will also spin their products to fit with the narrative of "self-love." I love myself so I got help, I love myself enough to use diet pills and restrictive eating to lose weight. They spin the idea of self-love into a market tactic even though self-love is acceptance of your body and mind as it changes and take whatever comes.
Something that is seen in both groups of people both lean and fat, insane and sane, beautiful and ugly can be spun to be negative in ugly, fat and insane people and positive in beautiful, sane and lean people.
This is seen greatly with eating sweets, a lean person eating a cupcake is sexy and seductive but in a fat person it is seen as diabetes waiting to happen. An insane person saying "no" is portrayed as "irrational" however, a sane person saying "no" is sticking up for themselves.
Media, and these industries will even withhold evidence that may invalidate their products and ideology such as how people with mental illness can lead productive lives and don't all hate having BPD, depression, etc. Studies showing diabetes and other "obesity-related illnesses" are actually the cause of unhealthy eating habits and a sedentary life style are omitted from reports these industries promote.
Spin uses cherry-picking, deliberate misinformation, ignoring opposing views, and doublespeak to force a certain point of view that these industries want to portray to the public.
