According to some people, we need to fit into society's mold of perfect, happy and "normal" Ozzie & Harriet style of life. People want to believe they are more "normal" and "sane" than other people and will never ever be quirky or strange and the self-proclaimed "normal" people are afraid of becoming like those who are maybe a little strange.
People want to tell themselves that people who are quirky or strange "must" have something wrong with them mentally. We do not want to admit that people come in all different types of personalities because by doing so it means these "normal," "sane" people "could have" had a weird personality or "could have" "cursed with a mental disorder." This is why we must tell ourselves people who are different from other people mentally is because they grew up in a bad home, or have something wrong with their brain. This is why we must label people with Schizotypal, Schizoid or any other personality disorders or mental disorder. We must assume we will never be depressed, weird or quirky like those who are mentally ill. We feel safe inside our normal, perfect minds because it helps us feel more in control of ourselves. We don't want to be weird or strange because we want to fit in will all the Ozzie and Harriet-ish normal people and it scares people to think we have no control over that. Society thrives in a fake illusion that some of us are normal and happy and our culture needs to hold onto that so can feel different than the mentally ill. Subconsciously, we feel preferable to them, as though it is us vs. them and people who are depressed,or weird are sub-humans that need to be fixed. We are terrified to realize that we are all the same, in the same boat. We all cry, throw things, yell at our loved ones for petty things. We want to be the clean, perfect smiling person we see on 1950s tv sitcoms, not the depressed, isolated, odd, quirky person wearing black stereotyped as "creepy." No one wants to admit that "crazy" "creepy" person we see on tv IS us,we don't want to be that person, as though we are somehow better, but we aren't, considering we are all on the same page, we all have emotions.
Cure= there is hope in a pill in case we become "Crazy"
We want to cure mentally ill people because we hate to be reminded of what we "could" be. We feel superior pretending we are perfect and we could be less than perfect at any given time. It just takes a break up or a devastating life event to turn us from our happy positive selves to wallowing in despair. We want to be reminded there is a "cure" just in case "that" mental disorder happens to us. Deep down inside we know it is just one life event from becoming insane, and then we will finally realize we are the imperfect person we aren't aware we already are.
